When it comes to self-awareness, there is very little that can be more important to our well-being than knowing what kind of shape our immune systems are in. Knowing whether or not there has been an attack on our immune system is one of the important diagnostic tools that we have in our arsenal for defense. Sometimes it can be easy to take for granted that we now have the science available that not only makes it possible to get tested for HIV, but to get a rapid response to that test.

So, now what is the deal with not getting tested? Could this thing called stigma be so strong as to scare or shame many, many people into not getting tested for HIV, even though we know we are sexually active...and in many cases, not practicing safer sex?

We have suffered enough. We have lost too many. What is (or will be) your deciding moment?

Everyone has a story. Because of the perception about HIV, many, if not most people who are living with HIV are reluctant to share their stories about what they have been going through mentally, emotionally, and physically. That is what makes it so impressive when some of our heroes and shero's show the courage of sharing their strength, hope and experience. We have found that there is great value in one person sharing their truth with the rest of us.

Of particular interest is the plight of the growing number of African-American women living with the threat of HIV. Americans have shown great interest in "reality" shows like the "Real Housewives of Atlanta". The fact is that reality is what the women from SisterLove in Atlanta know plenty about!! SisterLove, Inc. is a community organization based in Atlanta, Georgia that is committed to educating women about sexual and reproductive health issues that impact our lives and our life choices.

We thank them profusely for sharing their lives with us in the hope that it will create the kind of honest conversation that causes positive change in our communities!

There may be artist that are more well known than Julie Dexter, but there are very few that are more talented and down to earth! We are always blessed to enjoy the UK diva whenever she is in our area, so we are honored to be able to give you a little taste of Ms. Dexter performing "live" at the growing wellness conference called "AWAKEN".

Awaken is an annual event held in Atlanta, and it is an opportunity for businesses and people interested in showing and discovering a plethora of wellness products, foods and services. It was the perfect place for the sultry sounds of Ms. Dexter, and the atmosphere only enhanced the intimacy of Julie's performance. We thought it would be something you would enjoy, and we certainly know you would benefit from knowing about Awaken 2012!

You can be sure that we will keep you abreast about when and where it will return to Atlanta. In the meantime, feel free to check out a little bit of Julie Dexter...here in "RISE" !
